After a recent video of 6-year-old Bibi Shapiro singing Aveinu Malkeinu went viral, Rabbi Angela Buchdahl invited the passionate young singer and his mother Nina to lead our community into our own version of the High Holy Day prayer.

Based on the feelings Kandel experienced while reading the Jonah and the Whale story, this song addresses the seeming futility of repentance, noting that it is the act of repenting every year that reflects the progress we have and will continue to make.
Standing on the Parted Shores,” by Central’s Teen Choir
Central Synagogue’s Teen Choir sings “Standing on the Parted Shores,” a text by Michael Walzer adapted for our Mishkan Tefilah prayer book, with a melody by Noah Aronson. Through this meditation or kavanah (intention) before the prayer Mi Chamocha, our teens remind us with their sweet voices that the only way to bring about redemption is through partnership and persistence.
